After a fairly painful week, I finally got in to see a Dr. today for my foot. There was news and not so good news. First, there doesn't appear to be a stress fracture which is good news. BUT, he did speculate that the pain could be coming from plantar fasciitis, which if I have my choice, I'd take the fractured foot...seriously.
For those near and dear, you already know I've had my run-ins with plantar fasciitis before. For the last 10 plus years in fact. I thought I was over and done with hearing about it though when I saw a Dr. about 3 years ago and was told it was not in fact plantar fasciitis but actually the mechanics of or how my foot was "made". I was more or less told too bad so sad and sent on my way. Needless to say, hearing the possible diagnosis re-introduced to me today was more than discouraging.
The small silver lining though is that the Dr. today had other possible diagnosis and has ordered an MRI to be sure. He is going to check for something called Tarsal tunnel syndrome (yes, same idea as carpal tunnel) as well as Baxter's Nerve Entrapment. Both basically involve nerve damage and have symptoms similar to plantar fasciittis. In all my years of dealing with this, and the double digit doctors I've seen, this is the first I've ever heard of either of these. So, maybe there is a chance this time around for a correct diagnosis. However, the treatment for all three is more or less the same. Which...been there done that.
So! I am literally back at square one and mostly out of commission until the MRI is done. I'm getting pretty antsy to get back to the gym though and may try some biking this week just to feel not so fat kiddish.
I'm trying to stay positive that this will be the right track and this Dr. will know what he's talking about....but after 10 years, my positivity is not exactly overflowing.
Sorry for the bummer of a post, but that was my day today. At least I had a great weekend before getting crappy news. Aidyn and I went to a ballet performance on Friday night and then hit up the Farmer's Market on Saturday. On Sunday we went to Art in the Park here in town which is a great local event with a craft sale, a bouncy house for the kids, food vendors, live music, and even DiscDogs - a cool event for dogs and owners to show some Frisbee catching skills. It was a chilly day, but with something for everyone, it didn't really matter.
Off to bed now. Hopefully, I can shake this negativity and move forward. I'm thinking a road trip to the Rockies may be in my near future to help cure me. A good laugh, a stiff drink(s) and my brother telling me to stop being such a baby sounds like just what the doctor should order.
Boo to injuries. I haven't had plantar fascitis, but I have broken my foot and it was pretty awful.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you need some of those weird looking socks that you can sleep in...the ones that stretch your toes up. I'll try to find a link and send it your way.
So sorry for your setback. I'm sending you speedy recovery thoughts!
