I got to run in my shorts again today! Wooohooo! The sun was out, there was not a whole lot of wind and it was about 61 degrees for my 4 miles today. I woke up a little sore today, which means I must have worked hard at the gym yesterday, so I wasn't sure how my run would go. It felt pretty good though.
Distance: 4.05
Time: 38:39
Avg. Pace: 9:32 min/miles
Two complaints about today. One - my ipod kept pausing by itself even when it was "locked". What a shame, it may be time to upgrade. My 2nd generation nano has been good to me, but I think it's time to move on. My music requirements when I run are actually pretty minimal so I think I'm just going to get an ipod shuffle. I don't always run with music, so it's really all I need. Plus, I like that it's little and can clip right to my shirt. I don't have an armband right now, so running with my nano in my sports bra has been interesting. I'm sure I've left some people wondering while trying to change songs...but enough about that.
My second complaint about today is that I know for sure that my new running shoes are not working for me. It's still a great shoe, but I just need more support in my arch than what they have. I'm going to get a BIG I told you so from my husband. Soooo, if anyone is interested in a pair of size 8 Asics Duomax GT-2160, I'll give you a good deal.
Last night before leaving the gym, I signed myself up for their March Slim-down Challenge. It goes from now until some time in May. Everyone who signed up paid $25. We go in every week for a weigh-in and when it ends in May, the person with the highest % of weight lost wins the money AND a free year membership. I don't know if I would actually win, but with all this running I gotta have a chance right?
Well, maybe not. I went in for my first weigh-in tonight and I'm up a pound from when I last weighed myself at the end of January. I know some of it has turned to muscle...but still. I guess now I have to run a lot AND put down the Little Debbie Swiss Cakes. Bummer.
Tomorrow is a 2 mile or cross training day. My friend/co-worker Colleen has been working really hard on the Couch to 5k program and this week she is suppose to run 2 miles so I've told her I would run with her. If running is something you think you would like to start doing, check out this program. I know lots of people who have used it. I don't think it's suppose to be as warm as today, but the sun should be out and that counts too!
Crazy Aidyn is in bed, and Tim is working late, so I'm off to bed myself. Aidyn goes to gymnastics tomorrow and has saved herself some time in the morning by going to bed in her ballerina outfit that she would like to wear. She didn't trust me to remember to grab it in the morning. She's probably right, I forget stuff.
Night All!
Question: Do you have to have music and headphones when you workout? What's on your play list that keeps you motivated?
Sar,
ReplyDeleteAs you continue your blog, I can hear you turning into a personal trainer or something! You've gone from just writing about your workouts to giving good advice and directing people to other equipment and sites that can be helpful! I know you'll help others get motivated!
Phil said you could have his i-pod shuffle! It's probably three or four years old, but he doesn't use it that much. You'd just need new headphones! Let me know and we can send it out!
When I was shopping for running shoes the other day the guy was recommending the duomax for arch support, but it just didn't feel right in the store...so I stuck with adidas! Even though I don't run on the trails much anymore, I just do better with their trail shoes!
Keep up the great work! I love seeing your pace because it gives me something to shoot for...I feel like we were really similar in college!
I have black eyed peas and jay z on my i pod for workouts! :)
Love ya,
Megan.
Crap, that means I should probably put a disclaimer on my site that I many be full of shit and to proceed with caution and to please not sue me if your leg falls off while exercising. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't want to take Phil's shuffle if he still uses it at all and unless we can come up with an awesome trade! They are only like $40 so I don't mind buying one if we can't find a good trade.
After giving them up for years, I have been super happy with Nike for my last 3 pairs of shoes. Now most of their styles are the FREE style and I just don't know my feet can handle them. I also see a lot of people in Saucony's but I don't care for the pair Tim brought home or me. To each her own I think.
Have you gotten out to run yet?! Getting started is the hardest part, I know you can do it!!
You're not full of crap! We ran together for years and nothing has fallen off yet! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou sound like super mom...you've got a great balance of doing stuff for yourself and with your daughter! Aidyn is a lucky girl and you have a great mom for a teacher!
All that mushy stuff aside, you're doing Phil a favor by taking this tiny boring ipod off his hands! I bought it for him thinking that he wouldn't break it because it was so tiny. Instead, he got severe tech envy when my 14 year old nephew got a new i pod touch. Now he has to have one. Phil actually always listens to music no matter what he's doing...so now I have a Christmas present ready for next year! :)
I have not gotten out to run yet! I need a life pause button so I can clean my house top to bottom, do the fifty seven little projects that are on my list and start working out...then life can resume its normal crazy pace! I'm working out vicariously through you right now!
Keep it up!
Megan.
I listen to music on runs occaisionally. I have a very cheap old Juke phone with some tunes - everything from Nirvana (Teen Spirit) to Outkast (I Like the Way You Move) and Talking Heads (Road to Nowhere). I also have Led Zeppelin, Pink, Blondie, White Stripes, Amy Winehouse and Jos Stone so I'm pretty all over the place. Sometimes its a motivator for me and sometimes it a distraction. But I always use it on the treadmill to make that time go by faster.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the slim down and I hear ya on the Little Debbies. Covering 30 miles a week between running and walking the dogs and have not dropped a single pound because I am an eating machine.
