I just got back from the grocery store because I'm going to try and do a low/no carb diet for the next couple of weeks. Talk about hard work just to get through the store! I'm not really a fan of dieting but we're going to Mexico soon, and I'm really needing all the help I can get right now. I usually just rely on moderation, but since the weather won't co-operate and warm up, I'm still in winter hibernation eat to stay warm mode which does NOT equal look good in a bathing suit.
Anyway, I've got a few things to get me started. I promise not to make my blogs about my day to day hits and misses with a new diet. Nothing says, "holy crap that's boring!" like a blog about what I had for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I'll just let you know when I can finally put on the pair of jeans that have been laughing at me for months.
I know that alot of weight can be lost on a low/no carb diet, but I was never successful with that approach. Of course, that could have something to do with the fact that I'm a carb addict and withdrawal is painful. Short term is ok...such as when there is an event you're working towards. The best diet I find is really not a diet, but a way of life eating...you have to be able to live with it on a daily basis. An interesting concept I have is the "Garden of Eden" diet. I know there is a book written about that. My pea brain version is...anything that was found in the garden originally such as fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts should be eaten primarily. The easier it is to get to the food, the better it is for us. For instance. Wash an apple...eat it. Pick a tomato...eat it. Now nuts, you have to work at them a little, so you eat a few. Grains have to be made into something or prepared...so those portions are smaller. Think about meat, processed foods, etc. which require lots of "prep time". The portion size for such food should be minimal or non-existent. Just another probably kind of goofy way to look at eating.
ReplyDeleteSo, my daughter, good luck the next few weeks. And, I think you're way too hard on yourself. When I see you you look beautiful. But, of course others see us with a different set of eyes.
Hey Sar! One thing that helped me before I got pregnant last year was the website myfitnesspal.com. It really breaks it down to calories in vs. calories out. It has you enter in your stats and weight loss goals, then you track your food and exercise. I thought that would be annoying at first, but they have a HUGE data base of already entered food...such as different brands of bread or cheese or whatever. It's really easy once you get used to the site.
ReplyDeleteI actually had to quit going there when I got pregnant because it was sad to see myself going over in calories everyday and they didn't have a setting for pregnancy calorie needs. Let me know if you check it out and need any help.
I will definitely start using it again once I'm not so ravenous from nursing! Good luck...even though your mom is right and you are too hard on yourself. (Fat girl in a little shirt comment?!) funny but not true! :)
